about me

Welcome to Pumpkins Don’t Have Ankles, a place where I will record some of the funniest happenings in my life. I enjoy good humor every now and then (good humor as in funny stuff, not the ice cream) (though I do like ice cream) (frozen yogurt is better though) (but I digress), and I am putting them here hoping that others will enjoy them as well.
Some info about me: I’m Emily Park, a twenty-something writer who works for a Christian liberal arts university. You can tell I am a writer because I wear the funky little cat-eye glasses. That, and I spend my day writing and editing promotional magazines and have written hundreds of educational video scripts. Take your pick. I live in South Carolina, though I was born in Washington state and grew up in Connecticut.
I am a Christian, redeemed and justified by the merit of Christ and not by my own works.
My family has moved all around the world for at least four generations, starting with my great-grandparents. My theory is we were cursed by gypsies to wander the globe. For example, my grandfather was born in Peru though he was actually British, grew up outside of London, moved to Newfoundland, moved to the Azores, moved back to Newfoundland, moved to New York City area, then lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and South Carolina. That kind of stuff makes you tired thinking about. That’s a lot of moving boxes.
My bedroom in my apartment is decorated in gentle shades of aqua. It makes me feel happy and calm. The piles of papers and bills and to-do lists littered all over my desk have quite a different effect, so I mainly just concentrate on my bedspread.
I have three sisters who are wonderful and talented people. They also like to kidnap my stuffed animals and take blackmail pictures of them being threatened with clothes irons, water pistols, and orange juice.
My passions are writing, classical music (though I myself have the musical talent of a boiled potato), poetry and fiction, and I am also very interested in blindness and visual impairment.
